I have tried and and tested a lot of deodorants in the market and even the ones being sold by dermatologists in their clinics. I started using a deodorant when I was 11 or 12 years old and my mother made me use Rexona. It darkened my underarms. Then I switched to Secrets, Nivea, Dove, etc. Though some of them worked in controlling my underarm sweat, they did only for a short time. When my armpit got used to the product, it seems to fight it off and then become sweaty again.
I hate having sweaty underarms. In addition, these chemical deodorants also produced build up and just darkened my underarms. I tried switching to organic, natural deodorants like OneOrganics and Eden's Paradise herbal deo spray. The one from OneOrganics is just too pricey. It was over Php300 for a less than 100ml bottle. It was effective in controlling the sweat and whitening the underarm though.
I tried Eden's Paradise because it's not costly. The 100ml bottle is only priced at Php199 and lasts a really long time. The downside: my underarm got used to it in the long run and is no longer effective in controlling my sweat.
Way back in college, a classmate told me she never used any commercial deodorants at all. Woah! That really surprised me. So I asked her what's her secret in keeping her pit clean and non-smelling. Her answer was: CALAMANSI. The Philippine lime is rich in vitamin C and I have read that it's highly effective in whitening the skin thus most soap and lotion companies try to add this as one of the ingredients in their whitening products.
Though I don't have high hopes of getting whiter underarms, I tried and tested the CALAMANSI deodorant today.
I bought a kilo of that for only Php20. I sliced it in half and rub each on my armpits. I didn't rinse it off at all. I applied it after my shower. I went to work on a hot summer day with a temperature of 34C. Lo and behold, my armpits stayed dry all day and no smell at all!
I have read a lot about this powerful lime and if you're patient a lot it can really whiten your underarms, elbows, as well as your knees. However, others advised that if you have sensitive skin, you need to rinse it off after 10 minutes of application or it might cause some skin irritation.
I don't have sensitive skin, so I'm ok with not rinsing it off and using it as my inexpensive deodorant.
